Roarke takes his wife to see a star-studded production of an old Agatha Christie play, “Witness for the Prosecution” – in a ritzy theater he owns, of course. Eve is enthralled with the play and with figuring out who the guilty party is, until the last scene when the lead character is stabbed to death on stage by his ex-girlfriend. That’s how the play goes. It was supposed to be a collapsible knife. But the acting was too good. Someone replaced the prop with a real knife. Now the leading man is dead on the stage floor, and Lieutenant Dallas has a murder scene on her hands.
Who among the crew and cast members had it out for the arrogant actor?
As you may know, I listen to books on CD. J.D. Robb’s In Death series on CD is read by Susan Ericksen, one of the best I’ve heard. Her vocal portrayal of characters such as Mavis (not in this book), Feeney, McNabb, and Peabody are a sheer delight. Ericksen captures their essence. Especially entertaining in this book is Eve’s enraged conversation with her aide when she goes to a club with McNabb and gets a little tipsy. Very funny.
The series on CD is abridged, but that doesn’t take anything away from the wonderful storylines, though the love scenes are a little light. That’s probably just as well when you’re driving through Atlanta traffic.

I’ve read all of J.D. Robb’s books and loved them. I was hoping this was a new one, but alas, it’s not.
I’ve never listened to a book on tape but I hear Roarke’s voice is to die for.
So, I might have to check that out.
Thanks for the wonderful review.

Good review, Linsey. I haven’t gotten into this series yet, but I’ve heard nothing but good about them. I might have to dive in once school is finished.
Thanks a ton!

Thanks, Marilyn. No, this isn’t a new one. It’s only number 11. I’m slowly working my way through the J.D. Robb series. Each book gets better.

Tami, I can’t believe you haven’t read J.D. Robb! If you like Tami Hoag, you’ll like this series. You have to read at least one. Even if just to know why everyone in GRW drools over Roarke, LOL.
