Serenity James wants to be a reporter in the 1770s when women aren’t allow to do such things. Because her father owns a newspaper she manages to slip in an article about the Sea Wolf, the pirate she admires for helping men that have been forced to join the British Navy.
Morgan Drake, alias the Sea Wolf, has a dark past. When he reads the article that Serenity has written about him, he becomes worried that his true identity has been discovered. That knowledge could mean his death, being wanted in two different countries.
Morgan confronts Serenity and discovers she really has no idea who he is. But because a bounty hunter is after Morgan and will go to any lengths to get information out of anyone, Serenity is kidnapped and brought to Morgan’s ship for safe keeping. Neither Morgan nor Serenity is happy about her being on his ship. Serenity discovers that Morgan isn’t the super hero she had built him up to be but a mere man, one she finds herself attracted to despite his secrets and dark past. Morgan believes there is no future for them because the sea will always be his first love but can’t resist Serenity. She leaves Morgan and sails for home. The next day Morgan realizes he wants Serenity in his life more than his life as sea. He searches for her for over a year.
When Morgan finds Serenity she is holding his child. Morgan tells Serenity he wants her and their child over anything else in his life. He will give up the sea for her.
I’m a big fan of pirates and the intelligent women that capture their hearts. This book certainly had that in spades. After hearing Sherilyn Kenyon talk about how she had been told this book would never sell and that it hasn’t gone out of print since being published, I wanted to make sure I read it. I’m glad I did. I liked it.
