I found Inside My Heart on a bargain table at Borders with a price too good to pass up on a #1 New York Times Best Seller. It’s not my normal read by a long shot, but a peek inside revealed a conversational tone and a bit of self-deprecating humor, so I bought it.

Inside My Heart is a stream-of-conscious type read, with Robin McGraw weaving back and forth through the events of her life with Dr. Phil (Phillip McGraw) of TV fame. At times it had a ‘look what a stellar person I am’ feel, but each time she managed enough of the aforementioned self-deprecating humor to keep me reading.

McGraw’s quote from the back cover says: “I am on a mission to get you excited about your life, excited about being a woman in this day and time. My goal is to help you see your life as I see mine: a vast array of choices that can bring you closer to the person you long to be. Your life is waiting for you to claim it. It’s all in the choosing.”

I can’t say she accomplished her mission, but her excitement and you-can-do-it cheerleading did make me re-think how I look at some things in my life. All in all, definitely worth reading.

About the author

Carol Burnside | http://carolburnside.blogspot.com/
While growing up, Carol most often had her nose buried in a book, occasionally hearing characters having conversations that weren’t in those books. Then one day she decided to write some of those pesky voices down. Eureka! She’d been a writer all along. Happiness ensued within this native Texan. Today, she's grateful her travels have given her personal knowledge of a variety of settings for all those stories about men and women finding love and their very own happily ever after...much like she did.

Don't stop there. Try...

Thanks for the review, Carol. I have been considering this book. Someone else suggested it and I’ve kept it in my radar.
