Jacobin de Chastelux’s uncle, her guardian, has lost her in a card game to Lord Storrington. Refusing to be a part of her uncle’s gambling debt payment, she runs away. Disguised as a male chef, she joins the pastry staff of the king.
Anthony, Lord Storrington, vows vengeance against Jacobin’s uncle for a wrong done his mother. While attending the King’s dinner party, in an effort to draw Jacobin’s uncle back into another card game, Anthony unknowingly meets Jacobin. When her uncle is poisoned by a pastry from the King’s kitchen, Jacobin is afraid she will be accused. She needs some place to hide and she accepts a job in Lord Storrington’s kitchen, as a woman and uses a different name.
Looking for a pastry chef that can lure Jacobin’s uncle, who is known for his love of sweets, to his house, Anthony hires Jacobin. As they get better acquainted their attraction grows. Anthony finds out who Jacobin really is but doesn’t let her know. She is angry when she discovers that he has been keeping that a secret from her. Jacobin realizes she is in love with Anthony but knows she is going to be suspected of trying to poison her uncle. Anthony vows to help prove her innocence. Together, through some twists and turns they search for the true villain and find love.
A hot historical where food is a turn on. A hunky hero and spunky heroine, and a fun time. Well worth a read.
