Michelle Newcome

Bio:
Michelle has a very snooty degree to her name – an MFA in Creative Writing. While the five years of work to achieve this degree were certainly not wasted, she’d like to point out that the only advanced degree with less income potential would be the MA in Philosophy. Hence, she has a wide-ranging and rather checkered job history. Her most recent occupation was writing operations manuals for several major restaurant chains. She knows the secret recipes for all the popular menu items. She can also tell you how often certain chains schedule their restroom cleaning. The best paying work she ever did was designing houses for a high-end homebuilder. After spending twelve hours helping a client pick out light fixtures, Michelle attained the rarest of all achievements – a permanently frozen smile. Her most surprising occupation was as a high school cheerleading coach. She can catch a falling body coming from an eight foot height. And recite by memory at least twenty different defensive cheers. If the football team had been better, she’d know some offense cheers. Her worst paying job was as the editor of GSU Review, a literary magazine. This was also one of the most rewarding since she had an expense account and, if someone else is paying their bar tab, visiting writers will talk, talk, talk. She lives with her long suffering husband and two children in a small section of Atlanta called East Atlanta Village in what is the documented oldest house in the ‘hood (1900) where she struggles between writing and keeping paint on her house.
